[There's the small clearing of a throat, before Jade launches straight into business talk. He's looking for answers to a few of the odd little mysteries of this world...]

Pardon me, I don't wish to be a bother but I've discovered a bit of a discrepancy between this world and the home world I've come from.

I apologize if this does sound a bit silly, but what is the purpose of that three hundred and sixty-sixth day every four years? I'm a tad surprised that this world has such a short year cycle, but I've failed to reach a conclusion on why there is that last day. That and... Months. Is there any reason why they've been broken into days as they have?

[Why aren't your calendars standard and orderly, Pokéworld?]

Time seems to pass the same way. I guess my world just circulates differently to this one.

[Private to Dist]

I'm sure you've noticed the difference with the amount of days in a year in this world. How are you accounting for it?

It's called a leap year! And the calendar is the way it is because that's how people decided it should be! That's also why that extra day exists!

[Note to self: add Cobraday and the month of Cobratember to calendar after conquering the world.]

It's to prevent seasonal drift, due to a slight discrepancy between the calendar humans devised and the solar year. The solar year being about six hours longer than the year as we measure it, we add on an extra day every four years in our reckoning to compensate. Otherwise, over the passage of time, we'd eventually be observing January in the middle of the seasonal summer.

I was wondering how long it would take you to address this subject. I have to admit that it has been very difficult to adjust to. The most obvious and basic step was memorizing the names of the days and months.

[He clears his throat. Time for some deep scientific discussion.]

But the most jarring part is that a full year in this world is only around half a year in Auldrant. Yet as you said, the amount of hours in a day remain the same. It seems that while this planet rotates at the same speed as Auldrant, it cycles its sun at a much faster rate.

The months are based on the lunar cycles. It's roughly how long it takes for the moon to orbit the Earth, I think.

[...well, given the company he's spoken to, the residents of this world aren't the sort of rabble who wouldn't be able to answer this question, so-]

I'm sure you've already been given an explanation or three behind this world's system; it's the system my world uses as well. Personally, I find its presence here stranger than its absence, even though I find it convenient.

I don't really know why the years end up like that. [He likes looking at calendars, but hasn't put too much thought into it.] Certainly makes birthdays interesting for me, though.

The extra day you mentioned, is the day when beautiful ladies are allowed to propose to men.

[This certainly answered all your questions, right?]

It's a day parents made up to have their kids on, so they only have to buy them presents every four years!
