[There's the small clearing of a throat, before Jade launches straight into business talk. He's looking for answers to a few of the odd little mysteries of this world...]

Pardon me, I don't wish to be a bother but I've discovered a bit of a discrepancy between this world and the home world I've come from.

I apologize if this does sound a bit silly, but what is the purpose of that three hundred and sixty-sixth day every four years? I'm a tad surprised that this world has such a short year cycle, but I've failed to reach a conclusion on why there is that last day. That and... Months. Is there any reason why they've been broken into days as they have?

[Why aren't your calendars standard and orderly, Pokéworld?]

Time seems to pass the same way. I guess my world just circulates differently to this one.

[Private to Dist]

I'm sure you've noticed the difference with the amount of days in a year in this world. How are you accounting for it?

Yeah, but these names don't really make any sense! They're not named after anything! I mean, ours are named after the sentiences, but why do they have a 'Fry-day'? Is it a day for frying stuff?

[This is as close to scientific questioning as Luke will ever get.]

They're named as references to the gods of various pantheons, actually.

"Friday" comes from the old English word "Frīgedæg", meaning "meaning the day of the Norse goddess Fríge".

To be more specific, they're named after certain deities from a particular culture in the world from which the names originate. The majority come out of the Germanic tradition, honoring gods of the Norse pantheon. Saturday has Roman origins, honoring Saturn, the father of the king of the gods. And Sunday is also Germanic, honoring the sun, but the Romance languages use a variant on the phrase "the Lord's day" for religious reasons.

They don't tend to change with the times, fortunately, though they do with the language. In modern times, we've mostly grown to accept the days as they are — Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

There isn't much reason to fix something that isn't broken.

Of course, we've named other things after the gods of different cultures. Our names for the planets in our solar system come from the Roman pantheon, for example.

They were named by someone who believed in the pantheon, and the names stuck through the passage of time. The planet closest to the sun revolves swiftest around it, for example, and so it was named for the Roman god of messengers and travelers. The largest planet earned the name of the king of the gods, and the red planet took its name from the god of war because of its bloodlike color.

It's something simple, like a word or a phrase, that helps you remember something more complicated. For example, "Lorelei" rhymes with "Fri", so "Friday" means the same as "Loreleiday".

One of the days you missed was "Tuesday". To remember that, you might say, "How many Is are there in Ifritday? Two. Two, like in Tuesday."

Like--Undine is the sentience of the 'water' fonon, and Winds-day starts with 'w'...? [An annoyed noise. At least he got the concept.] Ugh, no, that's dumb.
