Do the seasons always pass this quickly? The time flying by so quickly is just draining this old man's energy. I'm not sure if I can keep up.

It's interesting to think that we've just reached the tenth month of the year and the season is still quite warm. I can't say I'm used to such heated weather, but I imagine it could be far worse. I do wonder how the winter will fare in such a town. Perhaps I'll actually take on that gym badge challenge. How difficult would one say those are?

I'm currently in Goldenrod. The voyage to this city wasn't as dangerous as I had first thought, but perhaps the gyms hold more of a challenge.

Mm, they tend to be. I don't know what Goldenrod's gym is like, however. Though if you sit in front of the gym and catch the victors as they leave, they tend to be forthcoming in their exuberance.

I'll certainly have to try that. I do wonder how many lose to the gym leader here. I was under the impression that this was quite a challenge.

There do seem to be quite a few, but they tend to be natives.

I'd imagine so, although I don't see myself as anyone particularly interesting.

I'm actually a colonel of the armed forces of my region. [And a scientist, but we won't speak of that.] And yourself?

Ah, a soldier. Is your country worth dying for, or do you simply enjoy killing?

I'm guessing my profession doesn't sit well with you if those are my only two options.

But the answer to your question would be 'neither'. I'd rather avoid militant conflicts if it's unnecessary, as our monarch would rather spend the kingdom's money on more meaningful purposes.

On the contrary, I like soldiers quite a bit. Only they tend to dislike me.

And if you were the monarch, how would you spend the kingdom's money?

Hmm... Well, I wouldn't wish to be monarch. It does quite horrible things to people. Our current monarch has recently become obsessed with collecting and snuggling with rappigs; I worry for his sanity. I think my position in the structure of my world is quite sound.

Occupational hazard, I guess.

Is it just enough prestige and responsibility to feel useful, but not so much that people suffer when you make a mistake?

Again, neither. Any error on my part may risk damaging the entire kingdom in one way or another... But I'm not one to make such a mistake. It's a very high-risk position for those who may not be up to the challenge.

Now, I wouldn't know if that's the terminology I would use, but I wouldn't wish for anyone to consider me easily pushed over.
